A Message from James Vallejo, Industry Showcase Chair:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the exhibitors and attendees for braving the (historically record setting) rainy weather in order to attend this magnificent event. The event was hosted on the 50-acre Dunsmuir-Hellman Estate, with a beautifully landscaped area as a backdrop. The estate includes a 17,000/SF Greek Revival Mansion, which was right in the middle of the events.

To begin with, our sponsors, exhibitors and our Guest Speaker, Mick De Giulio set forth every effort to make this event a success. Thanks also to all of the volunteers, the event really came together; right down to the free shuttle service to and from the estate.

The exhibitor’s level of expertise within the displays was unprecedented, from the flooring, lighting, cabinets, appliances, whirlpool tubs, countertops, tile and more. The Exhibitors showcased their products with style. The WoodStone trailer (with their wood-stone oven) was a big hit. They offered appetizers to all attendees including the other exhibitors.

Another hit was the complimentary “special gourmet soup” from Chef Roy Salazar at University Electric. It was a chilled mushroom puree with a parmesan cheese infused cream topping (it was to die for) served in a champagne style plastic glass. Even guest speaker Mick De Giulio stopped by the exhibitor displays to do a book signing and talk to some of the attendees and exhibitors.

The exhibitor displays were entered in a contest for the “Best of Show.” The Showcase committee selected the prize winners and they are as follows:

1st Place Prize – Purcell Murray
2nd Place Prize – RMS Designs
3rd Place Prize – Walker Zanger

Congratulations to the “Best of Show” winners!  Each prize winner will receive an award plaque as well as one year’s worth free advertisement on the CLCID website.

Also, the Dunsmuir-Hellman Mansion tour was incredible. The interior showcased an array of antique furniture, the incredible mansion rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were all untouched and preserved in their original state. The docents allowed access to the entire mansion giving a special glimpse into the past. A very special thank you!

Towards day’s end, the dinner presentation with Mick De Giulio was held at the Pavilion ballroom. The ballroom had an open beam interior structure overlooking the meadows, gazebo and a pond. What a beautiful view! Mick’s presentation, “Kitchen Centric” was very educational, offering a different philosophy (or perspective if you will) about the importance of keeping the identity of the interior and meeting client needs by creatively integrating new ideas with products working together and delivering (in some cases) a unique masterpiece. Thank you Mick!

We also gave away a week to “Lake Tahoe” at the opportunity drawing, our congratulations to Jennifer Keith of Butler-Johnson Corporation!

With sincerest thanks, we appreciate all of the volunteers, sponsors and exhibitors, who helped make this event such a success. Your dedication made it come together easier, raising our interior design profession as a marketed leader.
